Collective action. Shared ownership. Each for equal. All important phrases you hear on International Women’s Day. Yesterday I witnessed so many more positive vibes surrounding International Women’s Day than ever before - including social media posts, memes, events, recognition of other empowering women, and we even hosted our own pop-up event in collaboration with New Nuevo. All fantastic ways to bring empowering women together and encourage the community to join.
But, what’s most important is we keep that momentum going! We empower every day, we practice collective action every day, we fight for shared ownership every day, and we preach each for equal all damn day!
As young female entrepreneurs in Albuquerque, we’ve encountered moments of uncertainty and self-doubt - finding ourselves searching in our bag of apologies to make sure we stick to the status quo. However, because this city celebrates a community of empowered women, game-changing mentors, and home to many women-owned local businesses, we have been given a platform to find our voice and express why we matter. It all comes from the community of badass women who challenge us and give us that extra push to lean-in, every day. And, to be candid, we are still growing, learning, fighting and paving the way for us and others like us, who want to be entrepreneurs, business owners and female leaders in this city.
But, wow, what a way to live - through growth, finding strength in others and smiling back at those who aren’t along for the ride. That smile comes from the silliness, sadness, happiness and empowerment women have the capability of feeling in ONE single day. You are the bright light through the fog that surrounds us on a day to day basis, focused on how to be, how to look, what to say and telling us what to do. But we say nah, that noise is too loud. Move to the side. We’ve already got this. We’ve already got what we need.
