With free services like MailChimp out there, it’s no wonder so many of us are signing up to partake in the email marketing trend. We get it. You want to share your message on multiple channels. Any savvy marketer will tell you that utilizing email marketing offers the best return on investment (ROI). One recent study by Litmus cites 44 to 1 ROI for successful email marketers! Yes, you saw that correctly… that’s $44 for every $1 spent on email outreach. Who wouldn’t want to use this tool?

But how can you make the most of your email marketing strategy? We’re turning to one of our favorite resources for navigating social strategies, Dawn Marrs and Traci Reuter, hosts of the Social Media Happy Hour Podcast. These two share great tips on maximizing your social media advertising budget - here are our two favorite!

Have a strategy - If you build it they will come...but you need to know what to do with them once they show up! To put it simply, if you’re going to have an email distribution list, don’t let it go static. Use that list! Have a plan for how email marketing fits in with your buyer’s journey.

Follow-up emails with inquiries (Think: if someone clicks on an inquiry to your website at 4 am, how do you want to respond?). The sooner you hit your audience’s inbox after they make the first move, the more likely they are to remember you.

Strive for segmentation - One mistake email marketers make is sending the same content to everyone on your distribution list. Just as people have different interests, so does your audience. For example, a brand new inquiry may receive an introductory email with a link to your products or services and the other may be looking for more information about your portfolio. So basically - have a plan for outreach when it comes to email marketing.

Have next steps for prospect clients, new and current. Will that be a follow-up marketing email, a phone call or a personal email saying hey?

Either way - when it comes to marketing your brand, product or service, always have a plan! Email has become a key role in our lives - a popular way to communicate in today’s universe. More often than not, we find ourselves catching up and reading emails every day, so why not use a good ol’ fashion email to market your brand?
