Three Facebook Post Don'ts

Three Don'ts for Facebook Marketing

Three Don'ts for Facebook Marketing

If you've dabbled in Facebook marketing  through boosted posts, ads management or organic reach, you’ve likely noticed a major shift in number of views (reach) over the past couple years. For example, you could pay $25 for a Facebook ad in 2018 and easily  double the reach. Well, things are a little different this year.Organic reach is not what it used to be. In response to the shift, savvy marketers have had to allocate their budgets elsewhere. We certainly have too.

Solution! We want to share three “don’ts” we found interesting from one of our favorite go-to podcasts. Social Media Marketing World podcast by Michael Stelzner is a must, take a second to listen in! He not only shares his love for recent social media updates and trends, but he’s creative and funny (two of our favorite attributes in people).

So what are three don’ts? Well...

  1. Don’t share YouTube links. Have you noticed a decrease in your YouTube link views? YouTube is Facebook’s biggest competitor, so yes, YouTube vids will get pushed to the side  to a black hole with other unseen posts - never to be viewed again. The best way to ensure your videos are viewed? Post the actual video to your page, in 10 to 30 second increments and ideally in a square format.

  2. Don’t post images with text. Don’t worry, we’re guilty of this one too - especially if we have a fun infographic we’d like to share. Facebook’s feed algorithm favors engaging human-centric images over copy. One way to ensure your content will not be seen? Post a flyer. (Gasp! How many times have you done this one?). It won’t be seen and you will be at the mercy of the Facebook algorithm, potentially losing your audience. Want to promote an event? Share a video or great image of a person or a group of people with a link to the event in the body of the post instead. More and more people are utilizing Facebook events to guide their weekend calendar or afterwork hotspot, hop on board and post those events, not flyers!

  3. Don’t link posts. This one seems counter-intuitive for a social media platform doesn’t it? Not so much. Linking posts clogs up the feed so Facebook’s algorithm pushes shared posts right down to nowhere. Want to share content from a post? Either post the image itself or share one of your own and tag the original person or the organization who posted it.
